Stainless steel material is hard, sticky, prone to sticking, and wears out quickly, making it a difficult point in nut stamping and punching processes. The selection of materials for stainless steel punch heads depends on the thickness of the plate, daily production capacity, aperture size, and cost budget. Based on our long-term experience in nut mold production, we have compiled precise, practical, and non pit material selection solutions that are suitable for various stainless steel nut stamping conditions.
1、 Economic type (small batch, thin plate, cost-effective preferred)
Recommended Material: DC53
The hardness can reach HRC60-62, with a balance of toughness and wear resistance, and the price is affordable. It is a universal and cost-effective material for stainless steel stamping. Suitable for 0.1-1.0mm stainless steel sheet and small to medium batch production. It can be used for punching and forming 304 and 316 stainless steel nuts in daily use. The surface can be treated with titanium plating, which effectively prevents sticking to the mold and increases the service life by more than 50%. It is suitable for mass production of samples and small orders, balancing cost and practicality.
2、 General production type (medium thick plate, stable production, not easy to break)
Recommended material: SKH-51 (superior to SKH-9)
The conventional SKH-9 material is brittle, and stamping stainless steel thick plates, small holes, and irregular holes is prone to corner breakage and needle breakage. It is not recommended for use in stainless steel working conditions. SKH-51 high-speed steel is red hard and has stronger toughness, with a hardness of HRC62-64, wear-resistant and anti collapse, suitable for 1.0-2.5mm stainless steel and medium to high frequency mass production. It is a reliable and universal choice for batch stamping of stainless steel nuts.
3、 High yield and durable type (large batch, high-speed stamping, long service life)
Recommended material: PM23/AS203 powder high-speed steel
Adopting powder metallurgy technology, the material is pure without segregation, no micro cracks, and the hardness can reach HRC64-66. It has both ultra-high wear resistance and anti collapse toughness, completely solving the problems of stainless steel stamping sticking, pulling, and needle breakage. Suitable for high-speed continuous mass production, thin material high-frequency stamping, precision small holes, and irregular stainless steel nuts, with extremely strong punching stability and a service life 2-3 times that of ordinary high-speed steel. It is suitable for factories to produce large quantities of stable products and reduce the frequency of downtime and needle replacement.
4、 Ultra high hardness and wear resistance type (thick plate, hard material, ultra precision working conditions)
Recommended materials: tungsten steel (hard alloy), 8566 anti collapse mold steel
Tungsten steel has extremely high hardness and wear resistance, making it suitable for ultra precision small hole stamping of thin materials. However, its toughness is weak and requires proper mold guidance and protection. The 8566 anti collapse mold steel needle solves the problem of stainless steel thick plate stamping fracture, and is suitable for high difficulty working conditions such as 2.5mm thick stainless steel, narrow edge punching, square holes, complex irregular nuts, etc. It has excellent impact resistance, no corner collapse, and stability.
5、 Summary of Material Selection and Avoiding Pits (Industry Practical Standards)
Thin plate small batch: DC53 is preferred (with the highest cost-effectiveness)
Conventional mass production: SKH-51 is preferred (stable and durable, SKH-9 is abandoned)
High speed mass production: Preferred PM23/AS203 (high yield and long life)
Thick plate/complex hole: preferably 8566/tungsten steel (anti collapse, super wear-resistant)
Advantages of Jingpeng Hardware Customization: We can match exclusive punch materials and heat treatment processes one-to-one according to customers' stainless steel materials, plate thickness, hole diameter, and production volume. We support non-standard customization of various stainless steel nut punches, achieving non stick molds, continuous needle punching, high yield, and long-term stable production.
